Everywhere Office Depot conducts business, its belief in the fundamental importance of corporate citizenship is readily apparent. The Company and the Foundation believe that each has responsibility to support non-profit organizations around the world and to make a positive impact on many lives and communities. The independent Office Depot Foundation serves as a vehicle for the accomplishment of these objectives.

Relief, Recovery and Rebuilding in the Southeastern U.S.
As you might know, one of the Office Depot Foundation?s key strategic priorities is assisting people and businesses in preparing for disasters, as well as recovering and rebuilding afterwards. In the days since the tornadoes left their trail of destruction, we have been in direct contact with local government officials and our disaster relief and recovery partners to get the latest information so we can determine how we can help most effectively.
The following steps are already under way:
- The Office Depot Foundation is donating $21,000 to Feed The Children to provide two truckloads of food and personal care items for Office Depot associates and their immediate families in the Tuscaloosa and Birmingham, Alabama, areas whose homes have been damaged or destroyed. This contribution will also enable Feed The Children to help residents of these areas who are being served by its local non-profit partners. A total of 1,200 families will be assisted as a result of these donations. The supplies will be distributed next week by Feed The Children at Office Depot Store #270 in Tuscaloosa and Office Depot Store #59 in Birmingham.
- We are donating 10,000 sack packs for children in Alabama whose schools were damaged or destroyed, or who simply need something sturdy to use to carry their belongings. Office Depot Store #270 in Tuscaloosa will receive 5,000 sack packs and two pallets of school supplies for distribution to schools in the area. The other 5,000 sack packs will be given to Feed The Children for distribution in the Birmingham area.
- We also are giving school supplies and other items to Feed The Children that it will be able to distribute to people affected by the tornadoes throughout the Southeast.
- We are donating $3,000 to the Ryan Newman Foundation to help with relief and recovery efforts to help care for pets in the affected areas and will also provide GPS units for relief workers to use. As you might know, Ryan Newman is a NASCAR driver and Stewart-Haas Racing teammate of Tony Stewart, driver of the No. 14 Office Depot/Mobil 1 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
- The Foundation continues to support the National Disaster Help Desk for Business, which is managed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center. The Help Desk began receiving inquiries and reaching out to the affected areas immediately after the storms had passed. Businesses and non-profit organizations needing assistance as well as those that want to help with relief and recovery can call the Help Desk toll-free 24 hours a day at 1-888-MY-BIZ-HELP (888-692-4943).
We realize, of course, that once the immediate relief efforts are over, the people of Alabama and other tornado-ravaged states will begin the long and difficult process of rebuilding. We will continue to offer assistance to the best of our ability in the months ahead.
